Prizes The prizes awarded by the Kurt Leimer Foundation are scholarship prizes, which are described below: 1st Prize The first prize awarded by the Kurt Leimer Foundation is CHF 25,000. Furthermore, the winner will be given the opportunity to play a solo piano concert by Kurt Leimer or another composer as part of a concert organized by the Kurt Leimer Foundation in cooperation with the Department of Music of the University of the Arts Zurich or a different associated university/college. Pieces by Kurt Leimer are the Piano Concert in C-minor, the Piano Concert No. 2, the Concert for Piano and Orchestra (for the left hand) and the Piano Concert No. 4. For other composers, preference will be given to those concerts that were meaningful to Leimer's repertoire: the Concert for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in B-minor opus 23 by Pėtr Il'ic Cajkóvskij, the Piano Concert No. 2 B-major opus 83 by Johannes Brahms, the Concert for Piano and Orchestra No. 3 in D-minor opus 30 by Sergej Rachmaninoff, the Concerto in F by George Gershwin and the »Panathenäenzug« for Piano and Orchestra opus 74 by Richard Strauss. This concert is an integral part of the first prize. 2nd Prize The second prize is a scholarship in the amount of CHF 12,000. 3rd Prize The third prize is a scholarship in the amount of CHF 10,000. Davos Festival / young artists in concert In addition to the scholarship prizes, the winners of the awards will have the opportunity to perform a piano recital at the Davos Festival / young artists in concert in summer 2011. Kurt Leimer Sonderpreis The council of the Kurt Leimer Foundation in agreement with the Department of Music of the University of the Arts Zurich may also award the Kurt Leimer Sonderpreis. This prize will be awarded after the second contest round to a candidate whose artistic creativity and individuality were convincing and who clearly has potential to develop further. The prize is the commitment of the Department of Music of the University of the Arts Zurich to introduce the winner to the local and regional public of Zurich through concerts and other activities.
